Teens (13 to 19 years old)

This is the time in our lives when we start going through drastic hormonal changes. The amygdala (connected to our emotions) and the hippocampus (connected to our memory) constantly develop. We’re more conscious of our appearance, and outside influence is more prevalent, but our capacity for deductive reasoning improves. The combination of these changes can result in a teen acting out, sometimes even thinking they don’t need advice, and being led by friends into risky behavior.

When we are this age, having someone, a Life Coach, who can be a voice of reason who is not the parent can be highly beneficial. This coach can lead the teen through the changes they are facing at such a critical time in their development.

Because people at this age are not able to independently see ahead in their lives and consider the consequences of their actions, a Life Coach can help guide teens to consider those consequences when making their decisions.

It’s been my experience that teaching teens about themselves and how to relate to others results in more aware teenagers who are less prone to being influenced by the wrong people. Life Coaching can be a tool that helps teens better understand themselves, their goals, and what they need to do to achieve them.
